Today is Candlemas, an old celebration where lighting all the candles in your home is the tradition and you can finally take down the Christmas decs! It’s a Christian holy day and marks the end of the Epiphany/Christmas period, with worshippers bringing their own candles to church to be blessed and then used throughout the year.
In France, they celebrate slightly differently as Candlemas is their pancake day! The roundness and colour are meant to remind them of the sun and that spring will soon return after the depths of winter. They also fill their homes with lit candles, which is something we can definitely get behind!
Most importantly, today actually is the middle point between the December solstice and the March equinox, which means winter is halfway over – hurrah!
